"That sure is shiny."

Were my words when I went to check in on our wedding rings last Saturday. The clerk, Kevin, who we have been dealing with ever since the Broomjumpinggroom picked out my engagement ring. I saw my customize wedding band. It was so pretty with the aquamarine stones and diamonds. Kevin took my engagement ring and shined it up and put my bands with it. Then it hit me...I am getting married. Looking at my wedding set I realized how close I was to April 11. When we first picked that date, it seems so far away and now it was right in front of me. I still have one more decision to make with my wedding band, is if I am going to get them put together or just get a ring guard to hold them together. What are you going to do?

The Broomjumpinggroom ring is so nice. I showed the two bridesmaids that were with me the one that I wanted him to get and then they saw his actual ring and said that was him. The more I looked at it, it is really his style. I always thought that the rings had to match, but I am glad that we both selected something that are reflections of us at individuals and us as a couple.

Planning Saturday

Yesterday the Broomjumpinggroom and I went to purchase our wedding ring. I was so excited. I was like a kid in a candy store. All the glitter and gilts in the store. My eyes were all over the place and wanted to try on everything in the store. Due to the cut of my ring, which is what I wanted, and the setting, which my fiance chose, some of the bands did not look as good with my engagement ring. I also did not want an ordinary wedding band, but I did want something that was blingy and kinda of went around my engagement ring. I had my heart set on having a wedding band that had my birthstone, aquamarine, and diamonds in it. When I was looking, I did not see anything like that. When talking to the jeweler, he stated that anything in the store could be made to fit my specifications. That sounded great, but I was not sure of the cost. After sitting with him a little bit more, we can up with some that was within our budget and was uniquely all mine. Just imagine a band with an arch that wraps around the top and the bottom of the ring.It is basically a ring wrap. It is going to have diamonds and aquamarine stones alternating in each arch. I do not think that I am explaining it right, but trust me it is pretty together. I will post pictures when I get it.

Above is a picture of the Broomjumpinggrooms ring. He wanted a titanium or tungsten metal. These metals are do not bend like other metals do. He wanted this since he likes to work on cars and does lots of handy work around the house and did not want to risk scratching his ring. He tried on several and I even saw some that I liked that had diamonds in them, but he decided on something a little more plainer. Actually when making these types of rings they cut the metal to the exact ring size. These rings can not the stretched or cut to be resized, so they have to get it right the first time.

I think that it was a productive trip, we even looked at what we both wanted as gifts from each other for the wedding. Both of our rings are being custom made and will not be in for several week. I can wait to see them. Even better, I can not wait to wear my ring. I was thinking about putting a saying inside of my fiance's ring, but I have to think about what I want in there. Are you engraving anything inside of your wedding rings?

Got Insurance?

With all the list of things to do for my wedding, I did not think of needing insurance for my engagement ring. When I signed up for The Knot, reminder checklist for my things to do for planning, the first thing on the list was to get my ring insured. So after being engaged since December 26, I finally took the ring paperwork to work last week and faxed it to my insurance agent to have the ring added to our (Chuck and I) homeowners insurance. Well to my surprise I received the adjusted homeowners insurance today in the mail with the addition of the ring. I was thinking that it would be lot more for us to pay a month due to the appraisal of the ring, but it just added a whole $8.00. I think I can swing that.

In looking at the insurance paperwork, I noticed a few things that the company would not replace my ring for,
  • In case of rebellion or civil war
  • Confiscation by customs
  • If the ring is damaged by any weapon deploying atomic fission of radioactive force.
  • Loss due to insects.
  • Seizure of destruction under quarantine.

I could not believe that these were listed under my policy of coverage. I want the persons job at the insurance company that sits and thinks of these things, so that the insurance company does not have to replace anything but continues to charge you premiums. Of course, there more than just these but I found these to be the oddest. I am sure that my anal retentive fiance' Chuck will be happy to see the paperwork sitting on the table when he comes home. Now only if I can get him to find the paperwork for our home security system that I need to fax to the insurance agent so that we can get a discount. Well, one more thing off of my 1,000 things that I need to do.

21 Questions

Have you ever noticed that once you get the ring....you get all the of these questions? Sometimes when I am talking to someone I feel like I can hear the music from Jeopardy playing in my ear. The questions range from " How are they wedding plans going?" to " When are you guys having a baby?" I just want to say "Slow your roll, we just solidified a date.".....April 11, 2009. Sometimes I feel like that people do not see me or hear me anymore. They just want to hear about my event. Not to say I am not excited..I waited to damn long for this. It is just sometimes I think that they are more excited than me.

13 months to go!!!

I have 13 months to go until I get married. I got engaged on December 26, 2008, after a less than exciting Christmas. On Christmas with all my family and friends around we were exchanging gifts, as we got to the end, I began to wonder were was my gift from Chuck (my then boyfriend). I just figured that since he was a private person that he would give me my gift once everyone left our house for the evening. I went and began to wash some dishes from dessert, Chuck came up behind me with some paperwork. I looked up and he began to talk to me about that he was going to give me my ring this Christmas but the jewelry store sold my ring to someone else. It all became a blur, as looked at the paperwork with nothing shiny next to it. Before I knew it, curse words were flying out of my mouth and I was tell him to get out my face. As he walked away saying sorry, I did not know that he had told all my friends and family what he was doing and they were laughing in our living room.
At 3:00 am, Chuck came into our bedroom yelling and screaming about a mess or something downstairs. I was still half a sleep, trying to figure out what he was saying as I fumbled for my glasses so I could see. When I finally got my glasses on and got out of bed, I realized that he was standing there with the ring. Of course, I was speechless and tried to play off my shock. He asked me to be his wife, I began to cry. It was not one of those cute cries, it was one of those ugly, snot rolling, losing your breath cries. Through all that I finally got out YES!!!!!! We have a mortgage together, do you think that I would not say yes? Thus...the planning begins.
