Scoops Up!!

Well, my candy bar is coming together. I had talked about in other post on how that I had found containers to hold the candy and websites to purchases the candy from. Recently I purchased these scoops on Ebay for $10.00 for 10 of them. This is enough to cover the entire candy bar, so that each container will have a scoop.

Now since I have the scoops I need to find the bags that the guest to scoop their treats into. I have found some sites that have bags and recently received a catalog from Paper Mart , but I still can not find the right shade of aqua to match the wedding colors. I thought it would be nice to have aqua bags and stamp either our names or our monogram (which I need to finish working on) on them in brown.

I saw these bags on the Internet, but of course the aqua bags in the photo were not available (crap). I have also seen clear bags that you can get in 100-200 piece roll for a cheap price, but I thought that they looked cheap. What do you think? Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find aqua bags? Does it really matter since people are just going to put candy in them, eat the candy and throw the bag away? At least with paper, people might be more likely to recycle them instead of throwing them into the trash.

I have gathered some ideas for what I want my candy bar to look like.

At least that one more aspect of the wedding almost accomplished. I will look start ordering the candy at the end of February to have for the wedding. Now I just have to find something for my guest to put them in.

Who Said Being Thrifty Could Not Chic

Well I found a few things and more on my list for when I went garage selling and thrifting with my mom yesterday. I found items for the wedding and for our home.

I got this container for $3.00 to use as part of my candy bar at the wedding.

I got this one as well, but for only $.50. It will be great to keep the aqua gumballs in for the candy bar.

I also found a brass picture holder that was $.75, that I will probably spray paint silver and use to show an assortment of photos of Chuck and I at the reception. I also found this cool African mask for our house.

I have been researching what it means on the Internet. I think that it means peace and freedom. If anyone knows any different please let me know. The lady wanted $30.00 for it, but I was going to offer $15.00,as my mom stood there and stated "You should have offered $10.00." I knew what I was doing. I fortunately found something wrong with it and offered her $10.00 and she took it. Now it is mine.

I also found something at the thrift store that was totally unexpected. I found an Annie Lee painting. I love her work. I have several pieces of her artwork in my home. As luck would have it, it is the photo that I use for my posting for the wedding tip of the week. It is called "Jumping the Broom". This piece of art is on a tile. I love it. How fitting is it that I found this. I might even use it somewhere in the wedding, maybe by the guest book or the candy bar.

That's a few more things off of the list. I need to find 3 more containers for the candy bar, so I will be thrifting a little more often to save some more money. I am going to have a hip, sheik, cheap wedding yet (and an artfully decorated home as well).

Is this how Willy Wonka felt?

I have been watching wedding shows for years, grabbing ideas from most of them. The key now is to be able to work the ones that I like the most into my ceremony. The one idea that I know that I am using is, a candy bar. I have a sweet tooth anyway, so it works out perfectly. The trouble that I was finding was that, all the brides that I saw who had candy bars at their weddings were using colors like pink, yellow or red. These colors are little more appetizing that turquoise. My mom is questioning why I want our guest to be walking around with their mouths looking the color of Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. I began to do some research, to find where I could obtain bulk candy in the color that I need. My local Wal-Mart use to have a candy store in it, but of course when I need it, it closes. Once I again I begin to surf the Internet to find what I need. Wow..when they say the world wide web they surely mean it. Even though the candy was not within reach, I still felt like a kid in a candy store. I found blue raspberry gumballs, blue raspberry Laffy Taffy and turquoise buttermints on The Candy Warehouse. On the Groovy Candies website, I found blue raspberry sours and Now and Laters. Of course, I went to the M&M to find the perfect color chocolates. It is not in my budget to add Chuck and I' s name on them, but I guess it does not really matter anyway since people will be eating them not reading them. At least I am just looking at the candy and not eating the candy. That would not do much for my current weight loss program.

Now that I know where I am getting my candy from, I need to find the containers that I want to put them in to. I want them to be different shapes and sizes, to make the display a little more
interesting. I have found a lot of 3 on Ebay for $.99. What a deal!!! My mom found a real crystal bowl at the thrift store, ( one of my favorite places on earth). I think I have decided that I am only going to have 8 selections of candy at the reception so I only need to look for 4 more. To complete the candy bar area, I need to find some candy scoops and find the perfect bags that I can put my monogram on (well I guess I need to get on the ball rolling on creating that) for my guest to take the treats in.

This planning stuff takes on many layers.
I thought that picking candy would be simple, but there are several other things that I need to do so that the candy bar looks that way that I want it so that my guest and I are both satisfied.
