Tuesday Trends---Birdcage Veils

I am surprised that birdcage veils were suppose to be a trend for this year.  I thought that this was a trend last year. I actually wore one in my wedding and I loved it. The regular veils, just seemed to make me itch every time someone put one on my head. I felt so elegant, sophisticated and retro when I wore by birdcage veil.I think that birdcage veils come in so many different styles and colors, that they offer so many different choices for brides these days.

Click here to see some of my other postings about birdcage veils. I must say I did a few when I was planning my wedding wear.

Are you wearing or did you wear a birdcage veil or a regular veil?

Wedding Headpiece

I love my headpiece that I wore for my wedding. I made the flower and feather part and purchased the birdcage veil at Wendy's Bridal. The flower I purchased at an after Christmas sale, so it ended up being $.50. Then I purchased the comb and the feathers at Jo-Ann fabrics. I used a 40% off coupon to purchase the feathers which made it $.50 and the found the comb on the clearance rack for $.50. I used my trusty hot glue gun to secure everything together.

I tried to make my birdcage veil, but it was not turning out how I wanted it to. Two days before my wedding I went to pick up our wedding rings and there was a Wendy's Bridal next door to it. I just went in to see what they had. One of the store clerks was very helpful in showing me what they had. When she was pulling them off of the rack, she notice that one of them was tangled up in the another tiara. She tried to get it untangled. She said that she would be right back. While she came back, I continued to look, but did not want to pay that type of money for them. She returned and stated to me,"If you and I can get this untangled, my supervisor said that you could have it for 80% off." You know what I did, I sat there and got it untangled. It was one of the best ways I have spent 15 minutes in my life. I love my birdcage veil, really trying to find some where else to wear it, and think that it really worked well with my dress and the look that I wanted on my wedding day.

Wedding Weekend Part III: To Veil or Not to Veil that is the Question

Well, as part of last weekends festivities, I tried some veils. Everytime that I put one on it kinda made me itchy. I do not know why. I loved the birdcage veils that I have tried on. I was going to wear my MOH but it did not go with my dress. I have even won a discount from Castle Bride Couture, but the one that I love is more than what I paid for my dress. I really do not know what to do. I want a hairpiece that will go from ceremony to reception. I like some of the shorter veils that I tried on that were very simple. I definitely do not want a blusher. I wish I could have a combination of both, a traditional veil and birdcage. Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm A Winner

I was notified yesterday that I am the recipient of $100.00 off of a veil at Castle Bride Couture. Yippee!! Which works out just fine, because in my budget for my attire, I have budgeted $100.00 for a veil. I might have to go over a bit to purchase one of these veils. I went back to their website and looked at some of veils to try to make a decision on what would work best for my dress. Here is what I found.

This one is called Paige. I like the mix of feathers and rhinestones.

This is the Marina. I like this one because it is not a full veil but it adds some kick.I really like this one. It is called Kiera. Even with the discount, it is still out of my budget.

I need to contact them again to get all the particulars about the prize. So many choices, so little time. I do not know which one to choose. What do you think? Respond to this post and let me know which one you think that I should choose.

One flew over the Birdcage

I realized after trying on wedding dresses, that I really was not feeling a traditional veil. I was not sure how I felt it looked on me. Since I had not officially made my decision on a veil, I started looking into hair jewelry and flowers that I could wear. When visiting , Kate's Wedding, I stumbled upon a posting about her birdcage head piece. I visited several websites to get an idea of the cost of the veil and found them ranging from $45.00 to $200.00. I am not about to pay $200.00 for a veil since my dress what only $250.00. Below are a few pictures of some of the birdcage veils that I liked.

I really like these birdcage veils. They give a flare and allow you to show you without all the fuss of a piece of long fabric in your face, that may catch fire as you light the unity candle ( I have seen it before). If you want a long veil you can have a long ( with extra fabric in the back) or a very simple short one. They are as varied as the bride.

When searching on the web, I located a few websites that have these birdcage veils, where all of these photos came from. I have found that these site help spark your imagination, of all the of the head pieces that you can wear for your big day.

The more that I looked at these photos, I thought to myself that I could make this myself. I found few DIY birdcage websites.

I think that I am going to try to make one. I am going to wait until I get a 40-50% off coupon from Jo-Ann Fabrics and get my materials. It may take a few tries and lots of fiddling but I am going to give it a shot. How bad could it be. I have plenty of time to get it right.
