We are also looking at " No Ordinary Love" by Sade, the Broomjumpinggrooms favorite singer.(Trust me if we dance to this song he will be probably be singing with her instead of dancing with me.) We have not finalize a song yet...let you know when we do.

What about that greatest event of your life song? I love that song. I heard once people were using it to replace the old wedding march song for the journey down the isle.

My BF and I do not have a "song". You know like some couples do through their whole relationship together that makes them think of a special moment they shared together. It sounds like you two do not either and are just randomly picking one that you like. I am seriously interested in dance lessons. So our first dance can be more than just one of those hug and spin kind of dances (do you know what I mean?) So my plan is to get him to take lessons with me and pick a song with a good melody to match the dance we learn!!

We used "All I Want is You" by U2 because we wanted something a bit more "modern." BUT we had to take dance lesson in order to figure out how to dance to it! Love your blog :)

It's not our first dance song, but I'm having a friend sing "Feels Like Home" (Bonnie Raitt & others) at the ceremony, accompanied by a string quartet. I LOVE this song!

We'll probably do "The Way You Look Tonight" by Sinatra just because I really like dancing to that song.

I'd thought it'd be funny to do it to Witchcraft, but I dunno. It's a good song and all. But I'm not sure if it's great dance material while everyone is watching you.

FI and I are dancing to "I Could Not Ask For More" which is by Edwin McCain. However, we're using Sara Evans version because I think I like the female voice better.

What about "Annie's Song" by John Denver... that's an oldie, but so lovely.

My favorite wedding "song" is here (linked through one of my blogs): http://aginginappropriately.blogspot.com/2008/05/so-sweet.html :-) It's a sort of one-of-a-kind thing, but just wonderful!

Best of luck with all the planning!

We were dead set on using "At Last" for our first dance, but in the 9 months since we've been engaged, we've been to 3 weddings and THEY ALL used "At Last" either for their first dance or when walking down the aisle. Since when did Etta get so popular?

I don't even remember our wedding song. It was picked by one of my bridesmaids on the way to the wedding. We were soooo not organized. Regardless, everyone seemed to have a blast and it all seemed to work out fine - then and now;) Have fun w/ all your planning:)

When my husband and I got married last November this was one of the hardest decisions to make. We weren't having a "dance" so the song would be played as my brides maids and grooms men began the walk up the aisle, and would end when i reached the alter. We chose "There is Love" by Noel Paul Stookey. Funny name for a man, but the song was brilliant and even though we'd never heard it until a couple weeks before we got married, we both still have it on our Ipods and catch each other humming it on occasion. Good Luck! Oh...another song that might be good is "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz. Hope you post whatever your pick is!

I did "Unforgettable" the Nat and Natalie Cole version and I used "Someone Like You" by Van Morrison (my favorite song from my favorite movie).

I agree - my husband and I don't have a song. My husband doesn't dance (during the reception he stepped on my cousin's toes - she's a collegiate dancer). I picked the dance and song list and ran a few by him to make sure he was okay.

Don't do the norm but also do what you feel you'll like and will bring a smile to your face when you hear the song in ten years.

Good luck.

Hey Broom jumping bride...2 songs I know for sure I want played are:

Dionne Warwick (with the Spinners) "Then Came You (I never knew love before)"
and
Stevie Wonder "For Once in my Life (I have someone who needs me)"

These are very upbeat songs and the lyrics are perfect!

What about "Never" by Jaheim.

We used At Last, because it took 5 years of dating, breaking up and then getting back together.

Good list! We had a jazz singer serenade us with "At Last". Honestly, it was one of the better decisions we made. Looking back, I might have changed some of my other songs, but not that one. :)

This may sound a bit cheesy but my husband and I danced to "This I promise you" by N'sync. Even though it was N'sync it was still a great song.

My husband and I used "At Last" when we were married. I have always loved that song and it served us well on our day a couple of years ago. All the best to you. :-)

My husband and I went through every ballad singer in our cd collection and it all came back to Mariah Carey's "Music Box". It's a very sweet and tender song for that first dance.

We used "Nothing Matters When We're Dancing" by the Magnetic Fields. It's so romantic and lots of people commented on it as a lovely song. Bonus - it's pretty short, so you won't be dancing forEVER with everyone staring at you.

We used "In My Life" by the Beatles for the next song with wedding party and parents. My husband's father was like, "you guys know who the Beatles are?" like we were born yesterday. It was cute and everyone loved it.

I love this song: The Way I Am by Ingrid Michaelson. It's beautiful, simple and expressive.

I love your blog! I wish that I had read your stuff when I was wedding planning...bummer. I've been married for a few weeks short of a year now. Your blog would have been very helpful.

P.S. My hubby and I's wedding song is "The Promise" by Tracy Chapman.

HAPPY WEDDING PLANNING!

Thanks for all of the posting for this topic. I liked having all the suggestions. I will be reviewing some of these and might even use a few on my wedding cd's that I am making.

Better Together by Jack Johnson...there's just something about that song that really spoke spoke to my husband and I. Maybe it's because we both were directionless until we found each other.

Find a song that says something about you and your husband. Our first song was Cowboy Take Me Away by the Dixie Chicks. I also sang Feels Like Home (written by Randy Newman, sung by Bonnie Raitt, in the movie Michael) at a wedding- it is beautiful!
Great blog by the way. Happy planning! Happy life:-)

A little schmaltzy, but my hubby and I chose "Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel.

I love your blog!!!! I'm getting married in January and found myself intently reading your blog instead of working. Correction-my boss found me intently reading your blog.

Anyway-my fiance and I trying to decide between 2 different songs. Either "You Are So Beautiful" because the first time we danced was to that song-or "Long Trip Alone" because that was when we first said I Love You to each other. Make it personal-that way you're both inclined to always remember it.

We used the song, "When God Made You" because the lyrics were just perfect. It is by Newsong and Natalie Grant. Here they are for you if you would like to see them.

Navigation: N \ Newsong \ When God Made You

(Guys)

Its always been a mystery to me,
How two hearts can come together,
And love can last forever.
But now that I have found you I believe,
That a miracle has come when God sends the perfect one.
So gone are all my questions about why,
And i've never been so sure of anything in my life

~chorus~

Oh I wonder what God was thinking, when he created you.
I wonder if He knew everything I would need,
Because he made all my dreams come true.
When God made you, He must have been thinking about me.

(Girls)

Ooo ooo,I promise that wherever you may go, wherever life may lead you,
With all my heart I'll be there too.
And from this moment on I want you to know,
I'll let nothing come between us, and I will love the ones you love.
(guy):So gone are all my questions about why (girl echoes):about why

Duet:Oh I wonder what God was thinking when he created you,
I wonder if He knew everythin I would need,
Because He made all my dreams come true.
When God made you He must've been thinking about me.

Bridge

He made the sun He made the moon,
To harmonize a perfect tune,
One can't do without the other they just have to be together.
And that is how I know its true,
Your for me and i'm for you and my world
Just cant be right without you in my life

Chorus

(guy) He must have heard every prayer I've been praying (girl echo)
I've been praying (both)He must've knew everything I would need

When God made you, He must've been thinking about me.
